Bomani Tented Lodge

This luxurious tented lodge is tucked away in a private concession on the edge of the south eastern corner of Hwange National Park, in Zimbabwe. With its remote location and untouched surroundings, Bomani offers guests a truly authentic African Safari experience. Referred to as 'Hwange's best kept secret', Bomani is famous for its large herds of elephants as well as many other unique species of wildlife. Our fully licensed and knowledgeable guides will treat you to a safari experience you will never forget!

We love helping the local people that live in the rural communities around our lodges!

Here at Imvelo we are about far more than wildlife: for over a decade we have worked hard to protect the natural areas around us. This includes hands-on involvement with the local communities, and protecting and preserving the surrounding fauna and flora.

We offer our guests an honest ecotourism experience; we have purposely built each of our lodges on land that belongs to local village communities. This enables us to develop from the grassroots up and employ locals from the surrounding areas. More than 90% of our staff, some 100 or so individuals, are from the rural areas surrounding our lodges.

Our assistance to local communities over the years has included building classrooms, libraries, teachers' accommodation, ablution blocks, installing domestic water supplies, refurbishing clinics and providing healthcare...

We’d love to show you the progress that’s being made: our unchoreographed village visits give you an opportunity to see real village life as well as some of the programs with which we are involved. And remember its all thanks to you for staying in our lodges that makes all this help possible!

Need to Know

We need to know if you have any allergies or catering preferences so we can cater to your needs perfectly! You need to know that Bomani is an open camp and wildlife are free to roam in amongst the tents should they wish - your guide is available at all times to escort you to your tent from the main lodge area or vice versa.

Hwange National Park at 14,500 sq km, is one of Africa’s great Parks and is home to over 100 species of mammals, including 19 large herbivore and 8 large carnivore species, and nearly 400 species of birds. Hwange is elephant country and much of the game viewing relates to magnificent opportunities to view these, the largest land mammals, in a completely wild state. The lodge estate is in an exclusive 5000 acre portion of Ngamo forest adjacent to the Ngamo gate into Hwange National park, 1.5 km from the lodge. Game activities into the park are within a vast exclusive and wild area of the park. Traditional open safari vehicles driven by licensed and experienced guides. Morning drives with tea, coffee and biscuits and afternoon drives with drinks and cooked snacks. Our land cruisers seat up to 9 guests and Land Rovers seat up to 7 guests. Game walks can also be arranged and guests will be escorted by a fully licensed and highly experienced professional guide. Game walks are usually undertaken in the mornings and are ideal for photography of big game on foot. We also offer night drives within the lodge’s private concession to view the array of wildlife, particularly nocturnal creatures. Night drives are usually undertaken upon return from the afternoon activity or alternatively after supper, particularly when lion are heard calling nearby. For the hard core photographers we have game viewing blinds at some of our waterholes ideal for wildlife photography. Another 'safari' activity we offer is a 'pump run'. We operate 13 waterholes for the wildlife in this region of the National Park, the furthest of which is 55 km away. A popular activity is to take an all day trip into the Park to visit the waterholes to drop off fuel and oil for the motors as well as rations and supplies for the pump attendants. A picnic lunch is then enjoyed near one of the waterholes followed by a leisurely game drive back to lodge in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity for the guests to get a really 'hands on' experience as they can assist along the way if they choose to!

The wet season is magnificent - the plains are full of waterholes, the birdlife is prolific, the plains game are abundant, it is lush, green and beautiful! The dry season is very different - there are fewer waterholes and vegetation is sparse, but this makes viewing the game easier. The dry season is the best time for seeing elephants - they infiltrate the park in huge numbers and its possible during an all day game drive to see up to 1000! Please note the camp is closed in January and February.
